Rehoboth, Rehoboth, Rehoboth

By Adam Pettengell, in Sawgrass North

Rehoboth Beach - Boardwalk

Sawgrass North is already receiving huge interest from locals, Realtors and even surrounding states.  New Schell Brothers communities normally receive a large amount of interest when announced, and Sawgrass North is no different. In fact it’s received, and is projected to have, more interest than any of our communities yet!
So what makes Sawgrass North so special, you might ask?
It’s located in the 19971 Rehoboth zip code!
Can you come to the beach and not have a Grotto pizza or Nicola ziti?
Can you drive down Rehoboth Avenue and not stop at Dogfish Brewpub to eat?
How many times to do the kids or grandkids ask to go to Funland, Jungle Jim’s, or Sea Shell Golf?
Have you ever gone an entire season without Thrashers Fries, Kohr Brothers ice cream, or Dolles candy?
Well, Sawgrass North is the closest Schell Brothers’ community to Rehoboth Beach…only 5 miles away from the promise land! Not only is the location amazing but the community itself is a home-run. A private gated community with low maintenance living and all the best amenities, flanked by two golf courses and water access at the end of Old Landing road. Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, pond views, basements and private tree-lined home sites are also available!
It’s all very new and yet it makes perfect sense. Sawgrass North and Schell Brothers.  It’s a great match.
To register now for the ‘early bird’ deals and to be eligible for BIG pre-construction incentives visit our Sawgrass North website.
I look forward to sharing Thrasher Fries with you and showing you around the community and around Rehoboth.
Cheers, Adam

The Beach Gets a Little Pumpkin Crazy in November

By Adam Pettengell, in All Communities

Punkin Chunkin Cannons
We all go a little Pumpkin crazy when the Fall hits us, but the beach goes especially ‘punkin’ crazy.  Wawa starts to make their Pumpkin spice coffee, Hopkins Creamery sell their pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pies from every bakery and restaurant and Dorman’s does pumpkin donuts.
The amazing Dogfish Head Brewery bring out their Punkin Ale, which flies off the shelves so quickly, if you blink they’re all gone! If it can be pumpkin flavored, someone will make it! You can even go and pick out your very own pumpkins out in Lewes.
The month of November is very well known for the big Punkin Chunkin World Championships.  Another weird but wonderful event that has to be on your bucket list and has to be experienced. If you’ve never been to Punkin Chunkin, the idea is these huge machines fling pumpkins as far as possible with smashing results.
It’s not the only event in the month but it doesn’t get more pumpkin crazy than that.  Have a look below at some of the events that are happening around the area.

World Punkin Chunkin Championship

Friday, November 1 – Sunday, November 3
“The World Championship Punkin Chunkin is an annual competition for throwing pumpkins using catapults, air cannons and much more! The Punkin Chunkin Championship draws thousands of visitors to the area and is aired on the Discovery Channel every Thanksiving.”

This premier event includes cocktail hour, silent and live auctions followed by a seated dinner and dancing with Big City Band as well as individually decorated tables by local businesses and individuals. Proceeds will benefit the expansion of the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Medical Center.”

“Since its inaugural event in 1998, the award winning Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival has developed into a premiere, Mid-Atlantic cultural event. Film enthusiasts enjoy the convenience of seeing all the films at one, multi-screen location. “

Screams at the Beach Ticket Give Away

By Adam Pettengell, in Bayfront at Rehoboth

Screams at the Beach
Halloween is BIG at the beach.  Stores appear out of nowhere with the latest costumes, masks, and wigs that get more realistic each year.  I know a lot of my neighbors and friends put more effort into decorating their homes for Halloween than they do for Christmas!
Now if you don’t want to wait until the end of the month to get your Halloween season started, then I recommend Screams at the Beach. Set on the grounds of Sports at the Beach on Route 9 (Lewes Georgetown Highway) it has a number of different areas for you to go through, but no promises you will come out on the other side.  It’s a fun time for the family looking for lots of screams, thrills, and laughter.

Screams at the Beach

“The Town of All Hallow’s is waiting… Once a flourishing settlement this town has fallen into disarray, since the appearance of The Hallow. Now for the last 200 years unsuspecting victims wander into the town’s limits to find there’s no escape. This isn’t for the faint of heart. Here you will face your worst fears and your nightmares come to life.”

For more information on what activities are available check out ScreamsAtTheBeach.com.
The communities at Bayfront at Rehoboth and the Villages at Herring Creek are exclusively handing out coupons for the attraction. So make sure to visit these communities for your Screams at the Beach coupons.
Even better, Screams at the Beach has offered FREE pairs of tickets to the first FIVE people to comment on this post and share it with their friends.
What are you waiting for, are you chicken?

Cheers Adam

Local Bucket List: What can you check off?

By Adam Pettengell, in All Communities

Adam hauling lines to set sail
I recently read an article on Delaware Today, The Bucket List: 50 Things Every Delawarean Must Do and thought it would be great to share. I went through the list and I managed to check off 12 items! I’ve still got a long way to go but I’m keen to knock a few more off.
Can you guess which 12 I’ve already done? I’ll help you with the first one; my family recently went on the Kalmar Nyckel, a re-creation of the ship that made its trip to America in 1638 and helped to establish the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley.  What a great experience; And yes, thats a picture of me hauling lines to help set sail.
How many Delawarean Must Dos have you checked off of your bucket list?
Cheers, Adam

October is the NEW In Season

By Adam Pettengell, in All Communities

October is the NEW in season
I’m sure most people think that when the Summer season is over that the roads clear, restaurants close and tumble weeds wonder through the streets of Rehoboth and Lewes. Okay, maybe that was a little over the top, but you get what I mean.
Well, if October is anything to go by, then your diary is going to be full to the rafters twice over! Check out the events below that keep everybody busy during this so-called ‘off-season’.

Thursday, Oct 3 – Saturday, Nov 2: Screams at the Beach

“2012’s scariest attraction is back! They have more horror, longer trails, and shocking mayhem. The scream team longs for the return of more victims to touch, terrorize, and torture. Don’t miss out on this year’s screams and frights. We all look forward to seeing you very soon!”

“More than twenty years ago, the locals decided to create the Apple Scrapple Festival to showcase the local agricultural industry. The fair grounds are guaranteed to delight children of all ages, and the car, trade and craft shows will make the adults happy. With incredible food stalls, there is no reason to leave the fair grounds, so plan for a whole day of fun at the Apple Scrapple Festival this fall!”

Thursday, Oct 17 – Sunday, Oct 20: Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival
“Shows this year will be held on 5 stages – The Performing Arts Theater at Cape Henlopen High School, the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, Epworth Church, Delaware Distilling Co. and Saketumi Restaurant.  Plus there will be many local resturants and bars, in both Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, offering great entertainment.”

Sunday, Oct 20: Delaware Wine and Beer Festival
Drink Local, Eat Local, Buy Local is the perfect theme for the fourth annual event that blends Delaware’s finest wineries, breweries and now distilleries into one great event.  A number of select local eateries will be preparing everything from brick oven gourmet pizza to seafood and barbecue.”

Friday, Oct 25 – Sunday, Oct 27: The 24th Annual Seawitch Halloween & Fiddlers Festival, Rehoboth Beach
Join the festivities with the Sea Witch Parade and Costume Contest. Plus, a Fiddlers Contest with prizes awarded in Banjo, Fiddle, and Bluegrass categories, the Sea Witch Cottage and Heritage Craft Shows at the Rehoboth Outlets and Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, and a Best Costumed Pet Contest for Dogs, Cats, and Other Pets.

It really looks like October is the new in season. I just wonder if November can top all the events that October has to offer.

Cheers Adam

The Best Investment at the Beach?

By Adam Pettengell, in All Communities

porcelain_2
Chris Schell has always told the company the best investment for your money is in real estate.  At the moment with prices on the increase and rates rising lots of people are agreeing with him and trying to get a jump on the market.
HOWEVER, there is another item in Delaware which is is a pretty good bet when it comes to investing your cash.  It certainly doesn’t give you a beach home, with an amazing courtyard BUT it’s a quirky Delaware ‘thing’.  I’m taking about license plates and the limited white and black tag number plates.
It is doubtful there is another U.S. state with a higher “license plate consciousness” than Delaware. Folks everywhere are aware that low digits bring high dollars.  I’m amazed by the craze and am constantly aware of the plates on the roads.  Delaware is quirky in many ways, which is why the State suits me, and one of the things that many don’t notice until they have been here for a while is the “black tag” license plate. Whether they are a sign of elitism or just because they look cool, owners of cars in Delaware have the option of getting a “black” tag (as opposed to a “regular” tag) if their license plate number is low enough. The tag has to be below 87,000.
Tag 1 is for the governor, tag 2 is for the lieutenant governor, tag 3 is for the secretary of state, and the rest are available to the private sector.
There is even a website, http://www.thedelaware3000.org/ , where you can go to view pics of plates, NEW SIGHTINGS and a marketplace to sell them.
Ed Troise, recently purchased his new Delaware tag No. 67. Troice paid the winning bid of $170,000. That’s correct 170k! Wowzer.  If the price of a two-digit license tag is any indication, Delaware’s economy is improving.
Well, as great as an investment that white and black tags are, I’m not sure how much happiness you truly get from them.  A beach home certainly gives you more in terms of memories, stories, lifestyle and happiness. Chris is still right in my books, but please don’t tell him I said that 🙂 The best place to invest your money is at the beach and in a beach home.
I bet next time you’re at the beach though you’ll be looking at the tags on the road a little closer than normal now! Have fun.
