It’s the little things that make life better

By Alyssa Titus, in Uncategorized

If you are like most people, you realize that often times the little things in life are what really makes your day better! So, we got to thinking, what are the little things that make our Schell Brothers homes special? Most of you already know our homes have incredible curb appeal, are extremely energy-efficient and have open floor plans with lots of natural light, but what you may not know is that we have a plethora of little details that you can add to make your home that much better. With that in mind, we decided to create a list of some of our favorite and unexpected things that can be included in your Schell home, and will make your life, well, just better.

Pot fillers. These little gems make boiling water just plain easy. You don’t have to jostle back and forth from sink to stove top, and you can easily keep your eye on everything that is for dinner. So, get the spaghetti ready and cook away.

Reading nooks. Some of our floor plans offer built-ins on the landing of the staircase. This is the perfect place to relax and curl up with your favorite book. Grab your fluffiest blanket and that book you have been dying to read and enjoy.

Dog-washing stations. As you may know at Schell, we love our furry four-legged friends just as much as our homeowners. With our pets in mind, we added a dog-washing station to our selection lineup to the delight of pets everywhere. Woof, woof!

Wet bars. If you have ever been in a home with a wet bar, you know how fantastic they are. They provide extra storage for all your wine, a place to showcase your favorite glasses and they create a pretty cool gathering spot for you and your guests.

His and her closets. If you are like me, you need plenty of space for all of your shoes, clothing and jewelry and usually your husband is completely out of luck and his things are banished to the back edge of your owners’ suite closet. Well in a Schell Brothers home, you are both in luck! Most of our floor plans have his and hers walk-in closets. So, no more fighting for hanger space, there is plenty of room for both of you.

Solar power. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, and almost stamp out your electric bills, solar energy is for you. Our sister company, Clean Energy, offers solar panels in almost all of our communities in coastal Delaware. Even better, you are able to roll the cost of solar into your mortgage!

At Schell, we have thousands of options that allow you to personalize your home so you have exactly what you want and need. Want to learn more? Explore or Online Design Studio and dare to dream. https://schellbrothers.com/design/

Get Your Schell Home Ready for the Holidays!

By Alyssa Titus, in All Communities

The holidays are finally here! And prepping for all your guests can get a bit stressful. Thankfully, we are here to help make your Schell home fresh and festive for the holiday season, so you can get back to what matters most: enjoying time with your family and friends.

Make a Game Plan

Life is so much easier when you have a plan, and the holidays sure warrant one. Here at Schell, we love To Do lists. They help keep you on task and even better, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment when you cross a Holiday To Do off your list!

Get Ready for Overnight Guests

If your house is anything like ours, the holidays equal plenty of sleepovers! Whether it is your parents, children, grandkids or best friend, why not get your home guest-ready early? Everyone loves some good soap and hand lotion (even the men in your life; they just may not admit it), so load up your guest bath with lots of guest-sized goodies. Get your beds ready with clean sheets and plenty of warm blankets. While you’re at it, throw a few magazines on the nightstand and make sure a phone charger is nearby. All of these little details will make your guests feel right at home!

Decorate the Right Spaces

Get out your festive decor and make sure all of your main living spaces feel like the holidays! Light seasonal candles, hang a cheery sign or two, and put the stockings on the mantle. Adorn your front door with a beautiful wreath. But don’t sweat the small stuff; your guests won’t notice the cookie crumbs on the floor because they are at your house to see you.

Entertain the Easy Way

Let’s face it; it’s 2019 and life is fast-paced, so keep things easy during the holidays. Host a gathering where you don’t have to provide all of the food yourself. Invite friends over for a wine tasting where everyone brings a bottle, have a cookie exchange, or throw a pot-luck party. You’ll still be having fun with friends, sans spending two days prepping in the kitchen.
No matter how you plan to spend this holiday season, remember to breathe, celebrate and enjoy!

Local Favorites: Yellowfin’s Bar & Grill

By Alyssa Titus, in All Communities

Yellowfin’s Bar & Grill, conveniently located off of John J. Williams Highway, is the best new restaurant to try in the Long Neck area if you’re looking for tasty appetizers and entrees in a casual yet upbeat atmosphere. This unexpectedly cool spot is directly behind the recently constructed Wawa in a strip center full of cute shops that have just opened or are slated to open prior to Summer 2019.

Immediately upon entering, you’ll notice a hometown vibe with locals lingering at the bar and a fairly full restaurant, even on a Tuesday in January. The large bar is accented with a rustic theme, highlighted by a shiplap wall covered with a great selection of liquor, wine, beer and plenty of TV’s that will delight any sports fan. The extremely friendly manager, Brad, let me in on the fact that they turn the volume up in the bar area during important games. (Hint, hint: visit them for the Super Bowl and March Madness.)

The well-appointed bar

Yellowfin’s offers an impressive drink menu with plenty of interesting mixed drinks and ample options for wine and beer lovers alike. The Tuna Nachos are a highlight and evidently a favorite of both staff and visitors.  The flaky and light wonton nacho is the perfect staple for the slightly spicy ahi tuna and seaweed. I personally loved this appetizer and so did my husband! We opted to try several items from the Happy Hour Menu, all under $7. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Boneless Wings, and who doesn’t love Fried Spicy Cheese Curds and Fried Pickles with Sweet Thai Chili Sauce?

After that we were completely stuffed, but my hubby managed to enjoy Burger Night and opted for the locally farmed burger topped with a fried egg and onion frizzles.

Durning the summer months, guests can enjoy outdoor seating and live music on the patio. Yellowfin’s offers nightly specials year-round, including Monday Trivia and Pasta (a crowd favorite, so get there early if you plan on going and be ready for a lively game of trivia).

Brad informed me that their laid-back attitude applies to the hours as well. They stop serving food at ten nightly; but if there is a bar crowd at that time, they’ll gladly stay open to serve their guests.

Although Yellowfin’s just opened in April of 2018, the atmosphere, food quality and service make it seem as though they have been open for years! Yellowfin’s Bar & Grill is a hidden gem in Long Neck that won’t be hidden for long.
