The Knapp Project - Day 1
paying it forward
August 14, 2013
The Renew Renovation Team with the help of our Schell Brothers family of employees kicked of this year’s community outreach program. Ben Knapp had an unexpected heart attack as a normal, healthy 16 year old which left him severely disabled. The Knapp family home was never designed to accommodate Ben’s current needs. Since Renew is the renovation arm of Schell and Echelon, our team is leading the charge on making this extreme makeover happen. Well, extreme as it relates to changes to the house as we add a new living suite for Ben with exterior ramp access, replace the families current sunroom, as well as a myriad of other interior modifications to make the house more universally accessible. But definitely not extreme as in being done in one week!
The project began today with about 20 volunteers from the company to remove the existing sunroom from the back of the house and prep the grounds for the new foundations. We had an absolutely beautiful day, and the whole team was dressed in our Build for Ben t-shirts. The t-shirts must have had some magic construction dust because we had two shifts scheduled for the demolition today, but the first team wrapped up all of the work in about 3 hours! The foundation work is next – more updates to follow.
