Dave and Peggy Hagerty own a Bristol in the Schell community of Jefferson Creek. And after having spent a year there, the Hagerty\u2019s are sold on the advantages of twin home construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s similar to being the end unit of a townhouse,\u201d with the added available light and outdoor space, \u201cbut the amenities are like a single-family home,\u201d says Dave Hagerty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hagerty\u2019s are part-time residents \u2013 their year-round home is in Delaware County, Pennsylvania \u2013 so buying a home with less upkeep was important to them. A big plus: \u201cWe don\u2019t have to take care of the grass,\u201d Dave says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask Dave\u2019s neighbor Bob Maurer what he likes the most about his home, and he answers right away. \u201cIt\u2019s the light,\u201d he says. \u201cThe light, the windows, the vaulted ceilings. It beams with light and we couldn\u2019t be happier with it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was their Jefferson Creek sales representative, Natalie Hay<\/a>, who encouraged Bob and his wife Mary to look at a twin home. \u201cWe quickly realized that it had the same square footage as many of the single-family models, and it lived like a single-family model,\u201d with features like a first-floor owner\u2019s suite and a spacious kitchen. The wide, welcoming front porch is \u201canother thing that checked the box\u201d of features they were looking for. \u201cWe feel like we got a lot of value for the money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Maurer\u2019s visit their Bristol at least twice a month from their main residence in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., and more during the summer, although they have also come to appreciate the joys of spending time in the off-season. \u201cThe back of the house faces the west, so we get beautiful sunsets every night. We put on the fireplace in the great room and it\u2019s a completely different kind of beach life,\u201d Bob says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s lovely. I think it\u2019s a much more peaceful way of life than the craziness of Northern Virginia. Delaware offers so much \u2013 not just the coastal amenities, but also the wonderful farms and country spaces right outside your door.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mauer\u2019s enjoy dinners at Our Harvest<\/a>, Off the Hook<\/a>, and Zoca<\/a>. They\u2019ve taken day trips to nearby towns and to Cape May, New Jersey, boarding the ferry<\/a> in Lewes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe love the boardwalk, and taking walks in the neighborhood and along the beach and being on the water. We are creating new memories at the beach, \u201d Bob says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
