Sharon and Anthony are definitely a story I couldn\u2019t forget. We first met at a remote location\u2014like so many of the Founders Club\u2014back when Black Oak was still in its foundling stage. We found the floor plan that worked for them and personalized it to fit their needs, and everything was going great. Then we drove to the site.
I must admit, it had been a couple of weeks since I had last been out there. In my usual bravado, I said something like, \u201cIt\u2019s always great to have a Jeep for going off-road.\u201d<\/em> Well\u2026 the grass had grown high\u2014very<\/em> high\u2014and we couldn\u2019t drive anywhere near the homesite. In my head I\u2019m thinking, Oh my\u2026 this is going downhill fast.<\/em> So we got out and walked through the \u201chigh\u201d grass. Anthony was plowing ahead, while Sharon and I were treading a bit more carefully behind him. We eventually made it to the wooded perimeter and worked our way around toward Lot 4. We got pretty close\u2026 pretty close<\/em>. Sharon and I went through\u2014and over\u2014thorn branches, and honestly, that was the easiest part. It was memorable, let\u2019s just say that. I\u2019ll admit, after getting out of the jungle, I wasn\u2019t sure I\u2019d be seeing Anthony and Sharon again. I\u2019m glad they connected before heading home and ultimately made Black Oak their new home\u2014with the amazing Bethany (and yes, I know firsthand since I built one myself).
It\u2019s going to be a special one for sure. Kind of has to be\u2026 it\u2019s next to the model home \ud83d\ude09<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell us a bit about yourselves and your current situation?<\/strong>
Sharon and I grew up in New Jersey and have lived in Sussex County for the past 24 years. We have three adult children and three cats. Although both of us are still working, we are ready to slow down. A large non-profit healthcare system employs Sharon, while I serve as the Director of Facilities Construction for an international composting company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did you hear\/know about Lewes and the beach?<\/strong>
We both love hanging out at the beach and staying active, so we always knew that we would eventually retire to a location that offers both. Our goal was to find a town that feels genuine, full of rich history, amazing food options, and plenty of charm and culture. After some thought, we decided on Delaware, and due to its history and appealing atmosphere, Lewes quickly became our top choice! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did you pick Black Oak as your new home community?<\/strong>
We\u2019re so glad we found Black Oak<\/a> online! Our adventure took off when we came across Adam\u2019s fun virtual bike ride. It totally caught our eye and checked one of our boxes. We absolutely love having access to bike trails and the chance to ride to the beach, explore the town, or ride the trails. 
In New Jersey, our yard backs up to a nature preserve. During our second visit to the site, as we walked toward the lot we were interested in, the tall trees that would eventually line our new backyard reminded us of home. At that moment, we knew that this was where we wanted to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did you pick The Bethany as your floor plan?<\/strong>
We envisioned our new home as a welcoming space for our family, lifelong friends, and new neighbors \u2013 a place to gather, share meals, and enjoy drinks together. The open concept of the Bethany model, along with guest rooms for our visitors, makes it the perfect fit. Additionally, we love the beach-inspired look and feel of our future home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you look forward to the most once you live in your new home?<\/strong>
When we built our home in New Jersey, it was a new neighborhood. We didn\u2019t know anyone, and neither did anyone else. However, within a short period, everyone became great friends. At Black Oak<\/a>, we are looking forward to having that experience again. Additionally, we can\u2019t wait to kick back, relax, and enjoy some downtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Favorite drink \/ favorite food?<\/strong>
My favorite drink is an Old Fashioned, while Sharon prefers a glass of Prosecco. Our favorite food is seafood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where are your favorite places to go out and eat at the beach?<\/strong>
As of today, we have dined at a handful of Lewes restaurants. We had great dinners at Heirloom<\/a> and Harbour Restaurant<\/a> at Canal Square and enjoyed a delicious Salmon BLT for lunch at Wheelhouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any other places\/locations\/events that you love at the beach and can\u2019t wait to attend or favorite memory from being at the beach?<\/strong>
Some of our favorite moments have been spent with family and friends at the beach. We are excited to create similar memories in Lewes, especially since we no longer have to fly to a beach or drive two hours each way. This will make our time there much more enjoyable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you feel you use, or your family will use the amenities in the community?<\/strong>
At the community center, we look forward to meeting and hanging out with new friends, playing pickleball, and watching our young family members enjoy the kids’ pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What will your first purchase be once you live at the beach and why?<\/strong>
Our first purchase is going to be some new bikes<\/strong>! \ud83d\udeb2 \ud83d\udeb2 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
