Ellis Point is immersed in the peaceful setting of our coastal uplands and natural tidal wetlands offering a diverse environment for an amazing variety of wildlife.  Bordering on Holts Landing State park our open space blends with the wildlife sanctuary area of the park.  Wild Turkeys, Deer, Blue Herons, Great Egrets, waterfowl, shorebirds and others entertain the homeowners daily.

A walk along the shores of the Indian River on the private sandy beach reveals endless evidence of other water related wildlife.  The wildlife as well as the residents enjoy escaping into the quiet and seclusion of Ellis Point.  I’m not sure the wildlife appreciate the picturesque and expansive views of the Indian River Bay, but I know the residents do.

Little does the surrounding environment know how busy we are.  The proximity to Bethany Beach, the incredible setting and our award winning model, the Catalina, has attracted lots of activity since we opened it late last fall.  Seven future residents have already contracted for their dream home on the Indian River Bay.

When Sussex County Habitat for Humanity approached Schell Brothers about sponsoring the Walt Jones Memorial Golf Outing, there wasn’t any hesitation; Chris and Preston definitely wanted to help out.  Between Schell Brothers, Echelon Interiors, and the Schell Family Foundation, over $25,000 was donated to Habitat for Humanity to help build affordable housing for families in need right here in Sussex County.

The tournament started in 2005 when Walt Jones and his family donated the Par 3 Golf Course as a location for the Golf Outing in support of Habitat. Since his passing two years ago, the tournament has been carried on by his family and friends and renamed in his honor.

With weather in the low 70’s and the sun shining, it would have been hard to ask for a more perfect day to play golf. Two Schell Brothers teams took to the action on the greens during the day with one of the teams ending in a 4-way tie. Although they didn’t come away with the ultimate win, one of their members, Jill Burton, got the award for closest to the pin. All in all it was a fun, successful day for everyone and I know I personally look forward to shooting the video again next year!!

Adam and I have been having a bit of fun here at Bayfront and I think you’re going to enjoy it too. The Explore Bayfront Grand Opening Event is just around the corner so to get you ready for it we’ve prepared a short adventure video.

This is my acting debut and I had the privilege of working with the self proclaimed “one-take-wonder” himself (Adam). I think I stole the stage myself, but you can judge for yourself. Check it out and let me know what you think.

This week the proud new owners of our Heron model at the Ridings took ownership and moved in! We are very excited for them!

Jordan and I are pumped to announce that we have a new model home under construction just up the street in our newly released phase 3! We’re  building the Ainsley from Kincade Homes by Schell Brothers and I can’t wait to show you how amazing this home is. My favorite feature of the Ainsley is the flexibility it offers; You can choose one level or two story living, or a large gourmet kitchen, just to name a few possibilities.

If you are interested in a great investment opportunity, the Ainsley is available as a model leaseback for $455,900 fully furnished. The model will be nearing its completion at the end of May, and we’re currently taking appointments for sneak peak tours, so connect with us if you want to check it out.

Life at the beach isn’t just about the beach. The year round activities and events keep you busy, trust me. From the SeaWitch Festival to Chocolate festivals, there is always something going on.

One of the big activities at the beach is running! When I first came to the beach it was a big shock to me as well. No, not surfing, or swimming but running – and not just for the exercise. Running / walking are big social events at the beach. You’ll find a race most weeks of the year.

Just recently we participated in the Quest Fitness Mud Run. Yes, crazy people run and overcome obstacles and lots of mud! Why do it? Well why not. Check that item off your bucket list. Have fun, and don’t just live but live well.

1. Delaware is as flat as a pancake! NO hills I call it the Amsterdam of America
2. Awesome chance to meet new people with various levels of running ability and have fun at the same time
3. There’s usually great food, and at some events, even beer (Dogfish Dash in particular)

5. Oh yeah and to stay active

In a world of tweets, likes, friending and instagraming, now there is pinning. How often does an explanation of a creative idea end with “I saw it on Pinterest!” From party decorations, to costume ideas, to a million ways to use a mason jar, to Oreo-Reeses-chocolate-chip-marshmallow-pretzel-Rollo cookie recipes, this website has it all.

Pinterest is an online idea board that allows you to create your own themed board and then pin any photos or videos to it that you find interesting on the World Wide Web. You can check out your friend’s boards and repin their awesome ideas too.

Once I got the hang of pinning and liking on Pinterest, I found myself spending hours creating boards on things that I think are totally cool; typography, desserts, cute animals, quotes, and of course… Nutella! Soon after, the whole Schell marketing team realized that we all shared a love for (and perhaps slight obsession with) Pinterest and began to share boards that help spark ideas for our advertising. In searching for home related pins we knew that the pinners of the world could only benefit from a Schell Brothers Pinterest board featuring amazing photography of our homes. So our Pinterest account was born!

The Schell Brothers Pinterest page is just starting out and needs your help to grow. We have featured photos of our homes and communities, interior shots of our stunning kitchens, and various courtyard pictures. But we wanted to show you more that just our homes!

We set up a Why Love DE? board which focuses on beautiful images of our area in southern Delaware.

You can hear what current homeowners have to share about their Schell experience on our Real Life Testimonial board (updated every Testimonial Tuesday!).

And we just had to share a bit of our great culture with fun videos and photos of our team and company events.

Springfest is the much anticipated Grand Opening of the Sanderling model located at The Villages at Herring Creek on Saturday, May 18th from 11am – 4pm.

I know what you were thinking when you read “Springfest”… and no, it doesn’t mean that Adam is taking yet another vacation to the Bahamas or some other tropical destination.

When I think of Spring, I think of warm weather, rejuvenation, new beginnings, and of course beer! (Actually I often think about beer, regardless of the season.)

Just in time for Spring, the courtyard is in full bloom and the Sanderling model is ready for a party, which is why we have decided to throw the very first Schell Brothers Springfest! Come tour our model and other homes under various stages of construction, so you can see what goes on behind the walls.

The festivities will also include a Beer Garden in the courtyard featuring various local “brews and bites.” As if that wasn’t enough already, Adam am I have decided to create the first ever Schell Brothers home brew “Two Blokes Brewing Co.” which will be available for tasting at the event. And by “Adam and I”, I really mean me. That’s right, we I made a beer! We’ll even have pint glasses with our brew brand on them for you to take home, and you might win a beer themed door prize.

Thank you to all of you who participated in our Block Party recipe challenge! Our judges were very impressed by the entries and had a hard time picking a winner. After much consideration they selected “Butch’s Famous Mac Salad”.

So, was it the special ingredients of the shrimp or the bacon that stood out to the judges? There is only one way to find out… try Butch’s Famous Mac Salad at your next barbecue and let us know what you think! Congratulations Butch!

Butch’s Famous Mac Salad

• 1 box of elbow macaroni – I use creamettes, green box. Cook till tender, drain off water.
• 1 qt or 1 ½ quarts Hellmans mayonnaise – No diet stuff, it kills the taste.
• 2 lbs bacon – Partially freeze, cut across the end and fry the bits until crisp, drain, try not to eat all of the tidbits.
• 1 ½ to 2 lbs shrimp – I buy pre-cooked ,frozen de-veined, and cut into pieces.
• 3 large tomatoes or 5-6 med – Cut into small pieces about the size of the last joint on your little finger.
• 1 green pepper – firm, hard, no softies. Cut into very small pieces. I buy one suitable for stuffing.

Combine all ingredients in a bowl except mayo. Add 2 thirds of the bacon and mix in. Then fold in the mayo, salt and pepper to taste, and use the remaining bacon for a topping. Chill and keep cool until serving! Try it you will love it!!

After the recent success of our Rehoboth Foodies competition, I came across another gem which just totally fits Schell Brother’s culture of fun, being active and partying. So I went to me ole buddy Chrissy boy (“Mr. Schell” in person of course) and pitched him my idea. Once again the accent worked wonders.

Pints & Paddles

A kayaking excursion for the beer enthusiast! Brought to you by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and Quest Kayak.

What is it?

A relaxing out-and-back paddle along the scenic Broadkill River suitable for novice or seasoned paddlers. We paddle out through the McCabe Nature Preserve (a Nature Conservancy property) where we often see herons, ospreys, turtles, occasional eagles, and other wildlife. This trip runs from May through October, so the flora of the area is always changing (magnolias, cardinal flowers, etc. are some of the plants we see). After the paddle, we visit the Dogfish Head Brewery and tour the facility and sample (for those of legal drinking age). A keepsake DFH Pint Glass is included with this excursion.

This is an excellent trip for first time paddlers.
